CARUS Green member Gareth Parry smashed the course record during this month’s Steve Parsons Salver tournament.
Kendal-based Gareth, 38, who has been a Carus Green member for more than 10 years and who now has a handicap of just one, shot 64, an incredible six strokes under par to beat 120 other competitors.
He described the round as his “best ever”, although he also shot seven under par on Carus’ old course during a charity match years ago.
“I got off to a good start and conditions were fine,” said Gareth, who works for local company, Highgate Carpets. “There were some extremely challenging pin placements, but I managed to shoot six birdies and had an eagle on the 16th hole. Although I played well, I did have some lucky shots!”
He added: “A new custom-fit driver enabled me to increase my yardage, which definitely helped.”
